Our History
The Royal Canadian Legion has its origins in several small associations of ex-soldiers that existed throughout Canada before and during the First World War. One of the groups was the Army and Navy Veterans in Canada. The largest national organization, established in 1917, was the Great War Veterans’ Association (GWVA). Where does your money go? What does the legion do with your annual dues?
The Royal Canadian Legion is a not-for-profit, membership-based organization. We provide for Veterans and their families in need, promote Remembrance, and provide essential services within our community. We rely on several resources to fund our activities. Monies raised by the Legion will go into one of three separate General Ledger accounts. The first is the Gaming Account. Monies raised from gambling activities such as meat-draws, bingo, Self-Serve Terminals, 50/50 draws,
